A European state acknowledges the crime of ethnical genocide of Jews perpetrated by its ancestors 500 years ago.
As a result of The Edict of Expulsion in 1492 Hundreds of thousands of Spanish Jews had to convert "to Roman Catholicism or die".
At that time the Jewish community was flourishing and economically and philosophically. Many Jewish philosophers were leading the community with their moral and cultural enlightens.
One may experience these historical cultural testimonies while visiting Cordoba, the birthplace of the Famous physician and philosopher, Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon (MOSES Maimonides).
Many Jews from Portugal or Spain who immigrates in Europe still practice the Jewish religious customs which pass on generation after generation. For instance some may light Shabbat candles or Hanukah candelabra even though they are fervent Christians. This is due to the fact that the converted Jews continued in secrecy to practice Judaism.
At that time only Jews who converted to Catholicism were spared. Today Spain has one of the smallest Jewish communities in the Europe union.
The inquisition was put in place as an instrument to dominate the human spirit of liberty and dignity, and ended by eliminating all sign of culture and intellect.
Surprisingly, many criticize this law though it was approved unanimously by members of the Spanish Congress of Deputy. Some argue that it does not "right a wrong", that it is very difficult to apply since one have to prove its genuine inheritance right.
Others may argue that it creates second land right of return for Jewish people in the Diaspora. Subsequently it may bother the Jewish Agency goals.
Also it raises the Spain responsibility to acknowledge the persecution of Spanish Muslim at the same time and their expulsion during the 17 century.
All in whole it will have beneficial consequences for Spain and the Jewish people.
It may solve partly the problem of Jewish anti-Semitism arising again since the last world war through Europe and Latin America.
Finally, it is a courageous message for the future of people of good will.
Especially, since the inquisition spirit has coming back again this time targeting unreligious and Christian Muslims with the same motto "convert or die" using the old instrument of ethnical genocide ravaging cultural and intellectual human wealth.
