A message of Ms Dignité Bwiza for the Celebration of the International Women’s Day 2018
This Year’s theme for the celebration of the International Women’s Day is “the Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”. We celebrate, for the 23 rd time, the Beijing declaration and the tremendous positive impact it brought in the lives of women worldwide. Subsequent to the Beijing conference, laws and policies all over the world were reviewed to provide stronger protection to women against sexual and gender based violence.
On the occasion of the 8th consecutive year of the threatened Attorney, the International Criminal Bar joins the rejection and condemnation of the human rights violations to lawyers in the world.
There is no real official number of lawyers at risk for exercising the right of defense around the world. However, every day lawyers are murdered, threatened, arrested, tortured, prosecuted or simply missing.
Yesterday, on the 9th of March 2017, the Executive Committee of the ICB-BPI-CAPI visited the Court. Various meetings were held to introduce the new ExCo: a meeting with the Victim’s Office, a meeting with the Defense Office, a meeting with the Prosecutor’s Office and finally, a meeting with the President of the ICC, Mrs. Fernández de Gurmendi. This new Presidency and the new ExCo, along with some individual members introduced the new era of the International Criminal Bar.

The International Criminal Bar BPI-ICB-CAPI joins the rejection, denunciates and condemns the assassination of leaders in the Republic of Colombia. Crimes that are occurring despite the peace agreements between the Government and the FARC-EP.
Alarming data reported by the Ombudsman’s Office show that in 2016, 120 activists and human rights defenders were murdered, 33 have been attacked, 27 attacks of social leaders and human rights activists have been registered and 430 of them are threatened.
